Key member of the CoEJ Palliative Care Initiative team headed by Professor Dr Syed Qamar Abbas (Palliative Care Consultant, St Clare's Hospice, Essex) to increase awareness about Palliative Care amongst our community members. We have achieved the following:
- Appointed Palliative Care Champions in 17 mosques across the UK, France & Sweden
- Delivered awareness talks on Palliative Care and Lasting Power of Attorney
- Delivered a conference on the Islamic & Medical Aspects of Palliative Care
- Initiated letter-writing campaigns to local MPs & the House of Lords against the introduction of Assisted Dying legislation
We are currently developing:
- Podcast series on Lasting Power of Attorney
- Islamic guidance on 'DNACPR' for Muslim patients and Healthcare professionals
Voluntary Work: First Aid Co-ordinator
I co-ordinate first aid provision during large gatherings/events at my local mosque in Stanmore. This involves setting up a rota for trained first aiders to be available during events, ensuring first aid kits are stocked & accessible & ensuring the team is aware of the location of defibrillators.
